Peak assisted the Danish Defence with project management in an acquisition project of armoured patrol vehicles for the Danish soldiers.

Problem

The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) is a part of the Danish Defence. The agency’s most important task is to ensure, that the necessary equipment is available, so the ongoing operations are secured. Among other things, this involves acquiring new equipment, which is done via tenders and acquisitions on frameworks. They had to acquire armoured patrol vehicles, which is a complicated process that involves many different actors. Because the concern did not have project managers at their disposal, DALO wanted assistance with management and completion of the project. 

Solution

DALO’s main goal for the project was time – the faster the better – and Peak’s consultant assisted DALO with reaching this goal. Concretely, this involved creating an overview and managing the process. You have to know, who the stakeholders are, and which resources are available. At the same time, it is important to have the right specialists as counsel, as well as to ensure dialogue with the right actors at the right times. 

The management of the acquisition project happened in close cooperation with the steering committee chairperson and the rest of the steering committee. For that purpose, dialogue with other stakeholders was important to ensure, that the right decisions were made at the right times. At the same time, the project was engineered based on the requirement, that it should follow the PRINCE2-methodology management-wise. However, this was also tailored to the reality and situation at DALO. Furthermore, construction of the new operation structure, as well as transference to the user, was an important aspect, so that DALO could subsequently manage the project and operation themselves.
