Common process understanding across The Nordic countries with best practice in Nets

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

After a larger merger between 3 Nordic organizations Nets needed a common knowledge and process understanding in their approach to project management, operations management and portfolio management. Here, Peak helped with introduction and anchoring of best practices across The Nordic countries.

Problem

Nets is currently the second-largest European actor in payment-, card and information systems, calculated on the basis of yearly amount of completed payment transactions. Nets was initially established as a merger between the Danish PBS and the Nordic Nordito, and in 2012 it was further strengthened via the acquisition of Finland’s largest supplier of debit card solutions, Luottokunta.

As part of the merger a range of projects were initiated to establish a common, Nordic, best practice approach to project management, operations management and portfolio management. On the project side, PRINCE2® was chosen as the business’ project model and common method, and the operations organization chose ITIL® as their common framework for administration, management and optimization of the processes in the operation. Therefore, it was necessary to have a larger educational course and the right sparring partners, to ensure, that the chosen best practices were anchored across departments and land borders.

Solution

Peak was in charge of the education of over 200 Nets employees across Denmark and Norway. Moreover, our consultants advised the people responsible for the project methods about start-up of programs and sparring on project models. Through the conduction of a collection of business specific ITIL Awareness days in Norway and Denmark, an awareness and common understanding of the 13 prioritized processes in Nets ITO (the operation) was created. This has also meant, that Peak has established the foundation for a subsequent function-related optimization. Nets has via this especially developed program anchored new knowledge, a common language and gained a greater insight into the ITIL framework with both managers, process owners and employees.

This ensured awareness, common language, process optimization and knowledge about handling change, that can underpin how Nets should act leadership-wise in the management and the operation of the IT-organization. Through utilization of shared cases, a neutral (best practice) understanding of the current, Nordic, cross-functional work has been integrated into everyday working life. The employees have been taught how the processes and the structure is planned to function in everyday working life, and this can support further growth via for instance acquisitions or mergers.
